OR2 - Orchid Dinner Plate
Anna Weatherley's hand painted porcelain collection of Orchid designs is inspired by the British painter Florence Woolward's illustrations (1891 - 1896) commissioned by The 9th Marquess of Lothian to paint his extensive Orchid collection.
The 9th Marquess of Lothian, Schomberg Kerr, a British diplomat and politician issued, "The Genus Masdevallia '' which depicted Florence Woolward's paintings of his Orchid collection at Newbattle Abbey.
The plates are hand painted by a group of very highly trained master painters in Anna Weatherley's Budapest studio. This method of painting is a “dying art form,” the product of long hours of work on each object. The fine shading, the small brush strokes, the intricate details are the result of a very time consuming process. No mass produced decal design can be compared with these hand painted images.
